The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has directed the Virudhunagar Collector to initiate action against officials who failed to remove the caste-based name “Paraseri” from Vadakku Achamthavirthan (Ward 12) in the district. The ward falls under the Srivilliputhur Assembly constituency (Reserved).

Residents of the area boycotted the election to protest the government’s failure to remove the caste name. In a letter to the Collector, writer Imayam, who serves as Chairman (in-charge) of the Commission, sought an explanation for the delay and asked what action had been taken against the officials responsible. “Send the reply within a week,” he added.
