The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has directed the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department to file a status report on the steps taken towards the chanting of Tamil hymns during the consecration of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai.

The court was hearing the petition filed by Tamil Rajendiran alias R. Rajendiran, who sought a direction to the authorities to take effective steps to implement the chanting of Tamil spiritual mantras and Tamil hymns along with Sanskrit in Yaga Salai, Karuvarai, and Gopura Vimaanam during the consecration of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple to be held in September.
