The Supreme Court on Friday (April 24, 2026) said a record 92.03% voter turnout and minimal violence in West Bengal Assembly elections is proof that citizens know their strength lies in the democratic act of voting.

“Individually, as a citizen of India, I was very happy to see the percentage of voting. In this country, the people need to participate… The people realise their power in a democracy, the power of vote. They know that their strength lies in the democratic act of voting. They will not indulge in violence,” Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, heading a three-judge Bench, said.
