Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has said there was nothing wrong in raising the police issue in the Kerala Assembly, accusing the Chief Minister of “misleading” the House with incorrect figures.

Speaking to the media in Kannur on Friday, Mr. Chennithala said “the Chief Minister’s claim that 144 policemen were dismissed is contrary to reality. The National Crimes Records Bureau’s figures prove it. The Chief Minister misled the Assembly.”

He said people who go to police stations “have to return with cotton in their noses.”

He said the Opposition in Kerala has effectively presented the police issue in the Assembly.

“After the Chief Minister spoke, no one had a chance. A point of order was raised. But the Opposition is moving forward in a well-coordinated manner,” he said.

Mr. Chennithala said the Opposition attempted to express the sentiments of the common people in the Assembly, who, he said, “want the government to change.”

‘No discontent within party’

He also dismissed speculations about discontent within the party, saying “A.K. Antony has no resentment. Nobody has any resentment. Mr. Antony responded to the Muthanga issue because he knows more.”
