The Congress is facing factionalism among Muslim leaders after the bypolls to Davangere South Assembly constituency where the party did not nominate a Muslim, despite pressure from the community leaders.

Amid the row over action against Muslim leaders within the Congress that one section fears threatens the voter base of the party, another section appears to believe that the action was necessary, and that a “misleading campaign” is being run to portray that the grand old party is acting against the minority community.

The Congress is facing factionalism among Muslim leaders after the bypolls to Davangere South Assembly constituency where the party did not nominate a Muslim, despite pressure from the community leaders. So far, three-time MLC Abdul Jabbar has been suspended on charges of anti party activities while the Chief Minister’s political secretary Naseer Ahmed has been sacked. He, however, continues to be MLC.
