The battlelines have been drawn for a straight fight between the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) in Vriddhachalam where caste arithmetic and the redrawn political equations following the pre-poll alliance of the DMDK with the DMK will play out in the electoral arena.

Though the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) are also in the fray, the stage is set for a direct contest between DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant and P. Tamizharasi of the PMK.
