An All India Congress Committee (AICC) member from Kerala, Anil Akkara, a former MLA, has approached the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of violating the Model Code of Conduct by using the national broadcaster, Doordarshan, for politicking as the campaign phase for the Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry Assembly elections is winding down.

Mr. Akkara found an issue with PM Modi addressing the nation via the national broadcaster on Saturday (April 18, 2026), chiefly regarding the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bills, which require constitutional amendments.
