The Left parties argued in the Lok Sabha that without specifying the provision under which 50% increase in the number of seats after delimitation had been promised, the Union government was committing an injustice towards States that had performed well in population control.

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) MP S. Venkatesan, and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) MP N.K. Premachandran said, if passed in the present form, the Bill would take away the Constitutional rights of southern States.
