Bishop Derek Fernandes, head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Belagavi, has strongly condemned the disparaging remarks allegedly made by U.S. President Donald Trump against Pope Leo XIV, describing them as “deeply offensive, morally unacceptable, and hurtful to the sentiments of millions of Catholics around the world”.
In a press release issued on Tuesday (April 14), Bishop Fernandes said, “Holy Father Pope Leo XIV’s condemnation of the destructive war is rooted in truth, justice, and the enduring values of the Gospel. The Pope is absolutely right.”
