The textile industry in Maharashtra has suffered massive losses worth ₹4,000 crore in one month due to the ongoing West Asia conflict, Samajwadi Party Bhiwandi MLA Rais Shaikh said on Tuesday.

Thane district’s Bhiwandi is a major textile hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The two-time MLA from Bhiwandi East has demanded a financial package for the textile industry, and said that it will come to a standstill if the government didn’t step in. “If the industry starts shutting down, there is a possibility that lakhs of skilled and unskilled workers will lose their jobs,” he said.
