Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is set to become the State’s first BJP Chief Minister after he was elected as the leader of the BJP and NDA Legislature Parties on Tuesday (April 14, 2026). He met Governor Syed Ata Hasnain to stake his claim to form the new government in the State and is likely to take oath at the Raj Bhavan on April 15 along with a few select leaders, including two Deputy Chief Ministers from the Janata Dal (United).
Mr. Choudhary’s election followed days of suspense and speculation, and came an hour after Nitish Kumar officially resigned as Bihar’s longest serving Chief Minister.
