Choice filling of colleges and courses by students was a crucial component of the counselling process leading to their admission to preferred institutions and courses, T. Purushothaman, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA), told a gathering of students, teachers, and parents on Saturday.

Speaking at The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling Fair 2026 on the topic ‘Discovering Education: A Complete Guide to TNEA Counselling Procedures’, Dr. Purushothaman urged engineering aspirants to take utmost care and do proper homework before locking their choice. “You should be able to calculate your own cut off marks using the formula Maths + (Physics + Chemistry) / 2. Take the help of your teachers. Then, analyse the last five years’ cut off marks available on the website tneaonline.org,” he said.
