Markets were closed and people lined up along roadsides waiting for bodies to return home. Large parts of Jagraon town fell silent on Saturday (April 11, 2026) as mourners waited for the bodies of their loved ones who went to Vrindavan and were killed when their boat capsized in the Yamuna.

A boat carrying tourists, primarily from Punjab, capsized in the river in the holy town of Uttar Pradesh on Friday (April 10, 2026) afternoon, leaving 10 people dead, 22 injured and five missing. Most of the victims were from the Jagraon and Dugri areas of Ludhiana district.

According to officials, the victims were part of a group of about 120 pilgrims who had left for a four-day trip to Vrindavan in two buses on April 9.
