CMC observes Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in Vellore

The Surgical Nursing Unit and Surgery Unit II of Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore observed Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month by organising health education programmes for its staff and rural patients.

According to a press release, the theme of the awareness campaign was ‘Colorectal cancer: Preventable, Treatable and Beatable’. The awareness programmes were conducted on the risk factors and screening protocols.

An exhibition on colorectal cancer awareness, which was inaugurated by I. Rajesh, medical superintendent, CMC, was also organized. Banners in the stalls enlightened the audience on identifying the signs, risk factors, diagnosis, and screening strategies for this type of cancers.

A puppet show was organized in relation to colorectal cancer and its prevention. Games such as picture connection, jumbled words, word puzzles, turned out to be educative and entertaining, attracting the public, staff, students, and patients.

On the occasion, CMC staff, including Latha Madhankumar, Nurse Manager, Department of Surgical Nursing, Ebby Simon George, Associate director of the department, Myla Yacob, deputy medical superintendent, Alice Sony, Nursing Superintendent, were present, the release said.
