A forum which has been constituted to fight for getting recognition of minority status for Lingayat has appealed to members of all sub-castes of Lingayat to mention their religion as Lingayat in the religion column during the forthcoming socio economic and educational survey.
Addressing presspersons along with leaders of various sub-castes of Lingayat, Lingayatara Alpasankhyatara Manyategagi Horata Vedike president Chintamani Sindagi said that the forum will request the community members to mention their religion as Lingayat in Column No 11 (Others) of the survey.
He said that in the sub-caste column, the community members should mention the name of their sub-caste.
To a query, he said that mentioning Lingayat in the religion column is neither against Hinduism nor against the country’s safety. He said that some vested interests are trying to create confusion over mentioning Lingayat in the religion column and people should not pay heed to such versions.
Shivayogeppa Yammai, D.C. Rangareddy, Mallikarjun Kumbar, Ravi Kuduvakkaliga, Gangadhar Ganji and others of various sub-castes among Lingayat were present.
