“There is no end to learning, it is a continuous process. And, education plays a significant role in making life fruitful,” Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has said.

He was speaking during the first convocation of Haveri University at G.H. College in Haveri on Monday after awarding various graduate and postgraduate degrees to students and honorary doctorates to two eminent personalities.

The Governor asked the new graduates and postgraduates to think big and dream big and work persistently to reach their goal.

“Education is not just for gaining employment, it is also for creation of jobs. To whatever height you scale in your life, always be humble and obedient,” he said.

Describing Karnataka as a land of knowledge and heritage, he said that scores of saints, scholars and intellectuals born in Karnataka have guided society.

He said that with the establishment of Haveri University, and along with development of education, rural areas are also getting developed.

Delivering the convocation address, the former Judge of the High Court of Karnataka and chairman of Karnataka Law Commission Ashok Hinchigeri said that convocation is not just an event but a proclamation that students are ready to face the challenges of life.

Mr. Hinchigeri said that when one wiped the tears of another, he will become a human being and when one behaves in such a way that no one is hurt, his spiritual journey begins.

He called upon students to feel proud about being born in India which has a rich cultural and natural treasure.

He hoped that Haveri University will give education based on knowledge and experience, instead of just textbook-based education.

Honorary doctorate

On the occasion, seer of Hukkeri Mutt Sri Sadashiva Swami and writer Satish Kulkarni were conferred honorary doctorate degrees.

Toppers and rank students, including Netra Harijan, Usmansab Mulla, Kavya Prasadimath, Priyanka Iliger, Aishwarya Mudigoudra, Dhanalakshmi Patil and Nagalakshmi Bevinamarad, were awarded gold medals on the occasion.

Registrar (Evaluation) Renuka Meti read out the list of toppers.

Welcoming the dignitaries, Vice-Chancellor Suresh Jangamashetti spoke about the achievements of the university.

Registrar Siddappa Bagalkoti, Syndicate members and faculty members were present.
