Citing alleged restrictions imposed by the police, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has cancelled Monday’s (April 6, 2026) poll campaigns by its founder and actor C. Joseph Vijay in the Villivakkam and T. Nagar Assembly constituencies in Chennai.

TVK general secretary (election campaign management) and Villivakkam candidate Aadhav Arjuna claimed to journalists that permission was granted by the Returning Officer (RO) to campaign in T. Nagar (where TVK general secretary Bussy Anand is contesting) between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. but it was immediately changed to just one hour (2 p.m. to 3 p.m.) due to “pressure exerted by the city police.”

“Are there any rules that leaders should only campaign for one hour? Do these rules apply for [Chief Minister] M.K. Stalin and [Deputy CM] Udhayanidhi Stalin? We will urge the Election Commission of India to transfer the City Police Commissioner R. Arun,” he said.

Asked why his leader is not campaigning in Villivakkam when there are no restrictions, Mr. Arjuna contended it was unfair to restrict Mr. Vijay’s freedom to campaign within the city.
