The Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI), along with the hotel association, has raised concerns over the ongoing shortage and irregular supply of commercial LPG cylinders in Kalaburagi, stating that the crisis is severely affecting the hospitality sector and allied businesses.

The issue was discussed at a joint interaction held at the KKCCI auditorium in Kalaburagi on April 6, where representatives of the chamber, hotel association, and over 50 hotel owners participated.

Hotel owners expressed concern that despite being registered establishments and regular customers, they have not been receiving adequate LPG supply for over a month. They alleged that while licenced businesses are struggling, street vendors and unregistered establishments appear to be getting cylinders, raising suspicion of diversion in the distribution system.

Participants also pointed out that commercial LPG cylinders are being sold at higher prices in the open market, further aggravating the problem. “LPG is essential for our daily operations. Without assured supply, it is becoming increasingly difficult for businesses to survive”, they stated.

While acknowledging that the government has prioritised domestic consumption, hospitals and educational institutions amid supply constraints linked to the war in West Asia, stakeholders emphasised that the commercial sector plays a crucial role in supporting livelihoods and catering to the needs of people.

KKCCI president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa said the disruption in supply is impacting not only business owners but also workers and the broader local economy. The chamber demanded a dedicated quota for commercial LPG users, a transparent allocation system, regular and predictable supply, and prior intimation before imposing restrictions.

The chamber called for a time-bound plan to restore normal supply and said it is coordinating with the Deputy Commissioner’s office to convene a joint meeting with district authorities, LPG dealers and representatives of the hotel sector to find an immediate solution.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the business community, KKCCI urged the authorities to take urgent steps to ensure uninterrupted functioning of essential services, like the hospitality sector.
