The police, along with a dog squad, carried out extensive checks at Anantapur railway station, bus stand, and parcel offices on Friday.

Anantapur District Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh said that the checks were conducted by a team of III-Town police led by Circle Inspector Rajendranath Yadav, as part of the efforts to curb drug trafficking.

The team, accompanied by sniffer dog Tiger, who is known for successful detection of drugs in public places, screened passengers, their baggage, and consignments.

The SP said the exercise was aimed at preventing the movement of ganja, illicit liquor, and other narcotic substances, while ensuring that regular passengers were not inconvenienced.

Suspicious persons and their luggage were put to thorough verification during the drive. The police also maintained heightened vigilance at the key transit points in the district.

Mr. Jagadeesh appealed for public cooperation and urged them to share any information related to narcotics through the EAGLE toll-free number 1972 or Dial 112. “The police checks at railway and bus stations will continue to achieve the target of making the district drug-free,” the SP said.
