South Western Railway (SWR) has recorded an overall gross revenue of ₹9,488 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal, reflecting a substantial increase from ₹8,489 crore during the previous year.

According to a release from Chief Public Relations Officer, the railway zone has achieved significant milestones in freight loading, revenue generation and infrastructure development during the financial year 2025-26, overcoming operational challenges.

According to the release, the railway zone recorded a landmark Originating Freight Revenue of ₹5,347.40 crore, surpassing the previous best of ₹4,672 crore during 2024-25.

In the passenger segment, Passenger Revenue has risen to ₹3,468 crore from ₹3,172.5 crore last year.

A total of 176.93 million passengers were carried during the year compared to 165.53 million during the previous year.

During 2025-26, Other Coaching Revenue has increased to ₹329.5 crore, Sundry Revenue to ₹342 crore, Parcel Revenue to ₹170.4 crore (₹166.4 crore last year), Commercial Sundry Revenue to ₹121.08 crore against ₹92.82 crore during previous year.

Additionally, Ticket Checking Revenue has risen to ₹70.76 crore from ₹53.61 crore.

Total freight loading increased in the railway zone from 45.65 million tonnes in 2024-25 to 52.46 million tonnes in 2025-26, registering an impressive growth of 6.81 million tonnes (14.9%).

Iron ore remained the highest contributor, with loading increasing from 19.14 million tonnes to 20.98 million tonnes, registering a growth of 1.84 million tonnes (9.6%). Pig iron and finished steel followed, recording substantial loading of 10.95 million tonnes as against 8.46 million tonnes in the previous year, showing a significant increase of 2.49 million tonnes (29.4%), the release said.

According to the release, the railway zone has contributed about 13% to the incremental freight loading of Indian Railways, which increased from 1,615 million tonnes to 1,667.8 million tonnes.

A notable operational milestone was also achieved by the zone in Finished Steel loading, with 31 rakes loaded in a single day on March 31, 2026 surpassing the previous record of 29 rakes achieved on March 31, 2025.

In terms of infrastructure development, electrification of 53 route kilometres was completed during the year, taking the total electrified route length to 3,339 km out of the 3,712 km under the zone.

This apart, 24 km of new railway lines have been commissioned and 78.1 km of double lines completed, the release said.
