Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday (April 2, 2026) said that the Indian armed forces would take “unprecedented action” against Pakistan if it attempted any “misadventure”.
Recalling Operation Sindoor, launched last May after the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, the Minister said, “Operation Sindoor is still on. If Pakistan attempts any misadventure, the armed forces will give a befitting response that Pakistan will never forget. There will be unprecedented action by the forces,” he said at the ‘Sainik Samman Sammelan’ in Thiruvananthapuram.
“During Operation Sindoor, the armed forces brought Pakistan to its knees in 22 minutes. This was the biggest operation by the forces against terrorism in the history of Indian military.”
Mr. Singh said India’s approach towards terrorism changed after Narendra Modi took charge as Prime Minister in 2014. “In the past 11 years, Prime Minister Modi has strengthened national security. We have changed out attitude and action towards it. The whole world saw that change during Operation Sindoor,” he said.
The Defence Minister said that the Pahalgam terror attack, in which terrorists gunned down 26 civilians, was an attack on India’s social fabric and unity, and shattered the country. “In response to that, India destroyed the terror hideouts and related infrastructure in Pakistan,” he said.
Mr. Singh slammed the Congress and said its response to terror attack during the 10-year UPA rule was “fat dossiers”. “When the Congress was in power, there were terror attacks across the country on a daily basis. We would always get news of bomb blasts in cities. But the government responded to these attacks by submitting fat dossiers and no action was taken on those,” he said.
“But ever since Prime Minister Modi took charge, we have not only throttled terror attacks but have taken decisive action against terrorism and have been successful. Be it the surgical strikes after Uri and Pulwama attacks, or Operation Sindoor, we have hit terrorism hard. Today’s India has zero tolerance towards terrorism. It will not hesitate to act against terrorism within India and beyond the border,” he added.
