In a bid to ease traffic congestion and prevent road accidents, city police have initiated measures to divert heavy vehicles through West bypass in Vijayawada.

Acting on the directions of NTR district Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu, Traffic Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sharina Begum, along with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), conducted a joint inspection near Kaza toll gate, on Tuesday. Mangalagiri DSP and Vijayawada Traffic ACP Vamsidhar were also present.

During the inspection, officials reviewed the rising number of road accidents in the West Bypass stretch and discussed preventive measures. It was decided that warning signboards and rumble strips at critical points would be installed to improve visibility for motorists, especially during night hours. Steps to strengthen traffic regulation and monitoring were also outlined.

The Commissioner of Police directed officials to strictly enforce diversion of heavy vehicles through the bypass route to reduce congestion within city limits and minimise accident risks.

Ms. Sharina Begum appealed to the public to follow traffic rules and cooperate with authorities to ensure safe and smooth travel across the city.
