A 14-year-old Class IX student of Delhi Public School (DPS), Nacharam, sustained serious injuries after classmates gave him ‘birthday bumps’ during school hours.

The Nacharam police registered a case following a complaint lodged by the boy’s mother on September 11.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on the boy’s birthday on August 29, when his classmates lifted him and a student allegedly kneed him in the groin, while others applied pressure.

“The boy complained of severe pain and later suffered bleeding and swelling in his private parts,” said an officer from Nacharam police. His mother shared that the school staff informed her after he reported the incident to the vice principal.

Negligence alleged

“He was first taken to two private hospitals before being shifted to Care Hospital in Banjara Hills, where doctors confirmed testicular damage and performed surgery on August 30. He was advised three months of complete bed rest, with doctors stating that his full recovery can be assessed only after that period,” added the officer.

The boy’s mother alleged negligence on the part of the students involved, and the school staff, claiming there was a delay in administering timely medical treatment.

She requested that action be taken against those responsible.

The Nacharam police booked a case and started an investigation.
