Days after The Hindu reported on the condition of the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), Erragadda, Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha has directed the Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TGMSIDC) to conduct a field survey of the hospital and submit a detailed report on the state of its ageing buildings within the next two to three days.

The directive was issued during a review meeting held on Wednesday, where discussions centered on restoring the institute to its earlier stature. The Minister instructed officials to give priority to creating infrastructure, recruiting human resources, repairing equipment, installing an RO water plant, strengthening sanitation and drainage systems, improving internal roads and enhancing patient facilities at IMH. Proposals have also been sought for upgrading both outpatient and inpatient services.

Health Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu, director of Medical Education A. Narendra Kumar, IMH Superintendent Anitha Rayirala and senior officials from the Health Department took part in the meeting.
