Tension prevailed for some time at Sri Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, T. Begur, Nelamangala taluk of Bengaluru Rural district in Karnataka, after a group of students allegedly assaulted a lecturer on the campus for proposing to a female student inside a classroom. Video clips of the incident went viral on social media on March 26.

The lecturer reportedly approached the student during class hours, offered her a chocolate, and proposed to her. The student objected to his behaviour, and is said to have hit him with a slipper.

The situation escalated quickly as other students gathered and confronted the lecturer in the campus.

According to initial reports, a group of students allegedly chased him across the campus and assaulted him near a parked vehicle within the college premises. The lecturer eventually managed to escape.

No official complaint had been filed in the police station at the time of filing this report. The college is associated with Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
