Poll officials on Tuesday accepted the nomination papers of Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan after rejecting complaints lodged by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), alleging that he had concealed information and underreported his income.

The Returning Officer for the Paravur constituency dismissed the complaint lodged by LDF candidate E.T. Taison, alleging that Mr. Satheesan had failed to disclose his income as a lawyer, despite adding the title of advocate to his name. The Left camp alleged that the details of the reported traffic penalty imposed on his official vehicle were missing. They also alleged that he had failed to disclose the exact market value of his gold holdings.

The United Democratic Front camp, which termed the complaint as ‘politically motivated’, submitted the required documents and written explanation to support its position. The Returning Officer later accepted Mr. Satheesan’s nomination after scrutiny of the documents and rejected the complaint.

LDF representatives said they were planning to initiate legal action on their complaint after the conclusion of the election.
