The district police conducted a large-scale cordon and search operation on Sunday under Operation Vajra Prahar to curb drug abuse and other illegal activities. The drive was supervised by Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar.
Raids were carried out simultaneously across Kadiri, Penukonda and Puttaparthi sub-divisions. Teams led by Deputy Superintendents of Police and Circle Inspectors inspected lodges, rented houses, vacant buildings, construction sites and bus stands, focusing on vulnerable locations.
Addressing the media, the SP said the operation aimed at preventing the supply and consumption of ganja and other narcotic substances. Police also monitored rowdy-sheeters and persons involved in the illicit-liquor trade. During the drive, 109 two-wheelers without proper documents were seized, while about 20 rowdy-sheeters were summoned for counselling.
Drone cameras were deployed in select sensitive areas to monitor movement. Police personnel also interacted with residents, creating awareness about the health and legal risks of drug abuse.
