CBI questions Anil Ambani for second day in connection with ₹2,929-crore cheating case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday (March 20, 2026) again questioned businessman Anil Ambani for the second consecutive day in connection with a Rs 2,929-crore bank “fraud” case, registered against Reliance Communications Ltd. and him on a complaint by the State Bank of India (SBI)

Mr. Ambani’s statement was earlier recorded in the same case on Thursday (March 19, 2026). The agency registered the First Information Report (FIR) in August 2025, against against Reliance Communication Limited (RCom), its then director Mr. Ambani, and others, for allegedly causing a wrongful loss to the SBI.

The CBI booked Ambani and RCom for allegedly committing offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal breach of trust.

According to the FIR, the accused persons indulged in potential routing of loan funds, inter-company loan transactions, misuse of sales invoice financing, discounting of bills of RCom by Reliance Infratel Limited, movement of funds through inter-corporate deposits, write-off of capital advances given to Netizen Engineering Private Limited, a group company of Reliance ADA Group, and creation/write off of fictitious debtors, etc.

According to the complaint, the company had an outstanding of more than ₹40,000 crore to different lenders.
