The Government of Andhra Pradesh has introduced a policy reform to promote the livestock sector in the urban areas by exempting key charges and rationalising the fee structure.

G.O.Ms. No. 63 issued on Friday exempts livestock activities such as dairy, sheep and goat-rearing, piggery and poultry from development and betterment charges across the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Urban Development Authorities (UDAs).

The government clarified that these activities were part of the rural-urban economy and not commercial real estate, aiming to ease financial burden on farmers and small entrepreneurs.

Additionally, building licence and permit fee for livestock-related activities were aligned with those applicable in the Gram Panchayats to ensure parity and improve ease of doing business. The move was expected to facilitate the establishment of livestock units in peri-urban and urban areas, boosting productivity and incomes.

Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, S. Suresh Kumar, said the reforms would reduce compliance costs and promote scientific, organised farming, while supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the State.
