Several irregularities were found during a surprise check conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at the office of the Municipal Commissioner of Kamareddy Municipality on Monday, March 16. The bureau found that more than 400 commercial establishments had pending trade licence renewals for the financial year 2025-2026, resulting in dues of around ₹21 crore.

ACB officials from the Nizamabad range carried out the inspection following credible information and verified the records, financial transactions, pending applications and the overall functioning of the office. During the inspection, officials found that 47 complaints regarding unauthorised constructions were received during 2025 and 2026. Though notices were issued in most cases, no further action was taken even after the stipulated period had lapsed.

Field verification by ACB inspectors also revealed variations in property tax assessments which could have caused a significant loss to the government. Officials further noted that around ₹7.12 lakh per month was allocated towards fuel charges for use by municipal officials, but proper records regarding the expenditure were not maintained and required further verification.

The inspection also revealed discrepancies in attendance and salary records of some outsourcing employees. While the attendance register showed them as absent for certain days in a month, salary records indicated that full monthly wages were drawn.

According to the ACB, 169 building permission applications were received between December 2025 and March 2026, of which 18 exceeded the prescribed 21 day processing period, indicating delays in decision making.

Officials said a report will be submitted to the government recommending appropriate action against the municipal officials concerned.
