LPG Booking interval for rural consumers increased to 45 days

Amid concerns over diversion of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) domestic cylinders to commercial purposes and hoarding, Telangana government on Friday (March 15, 2026) announced that booking intervals have been revised. The minimum gap for the booking now is 45 days for consumers in rural areas and 25 days for urban consumers, in alignment with national guidelines. The interval was increased from 21 days to 25 days for all areas, post the war in West Asia.

“This adjustment, from previous shorter intervals, aims to match realistic household consumption patterns — one cylinder typically lasts 25–45 days depending on family size and usage, while curbing surplus cylinders that could be misused in hotels, restaurants, or black markets,” as per a press note.

Telangana Civil Supplies Minister . Uttam Kumar Reddy assured that there is no shortage of domestic LPG in the State.

He chaired a high-level video conference held from the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad on the State’s LPG supply situation, daily LPG cylinder needs in the State, stocks available, measures taken to avoid diversion of the stock and other aspects.

The government has mandated uninterrupted supply of the resource to essential services like hospitals, schools, orphanages, old age homes and other critical institutions.

The officials informed that State maintains about 10,611 metric tonnes of LPG in stock — equivalent to roughly 6.97 lakh cylinders.

There are around 1.29 crore active domestic connections in Telangana, serviced by 810 distributors. The daily requirement stands at approximately 2.5 lakh cylinders, of which domestic users account for nearly 86% and commercial demand for about 14%. “No bottling plant in the state has faced disruptions, and over 90% of domestic demand has been consistently met in recent periods,” as per the press note. 

Dedicated coordination committees at State and district levels were set up on Friday to monitor real-time stock, distribution, and compliance across the state. The State-Level LPG Supply Coordination Committee will be headed by the Chief Secretary and the district level committees by  Collectors. 

Action against black marketing

Mr. Reddy said that action would be taken against black marketing of the gas, and directed the officials to ensure there is no such sale. The Collectors were also directed to take steps to allay concerns of the domestic gas users. The Civil Supplies department’s toll-free number is 1967 to report issues with LPG supply and illegal commercial use. 

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Civil Supplies Principal Secretary M. Stephen Raveendra and other officials attended the meeting.
