V.K. Sasikala, the former interim general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), announced her party would be known as All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AIPTMMK), on Friday (March 13, 2026).

Earlier on February 24, she unveiled the party’s flag at a public meeting in Kamuthi of Ramanathapuram district.

Ms Sasikala clarified the party had been launched by a follower of the AIADMK’s founder M.G. Ramachandran (popularly MGR) and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. She [Ms. Sasikala] had associated herself with it, which had been assigned the symbol of “coconut grove.” Her organisation would align itself with like-minded parties during the Assembly election, she told journalists in Chennai.
