India on Thursday (March 12, 2026) said that it has received a request from Bangladesh to supply diesel.

Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal said that against the backdrop of continued conflict between U.S.-Israel and Iran, Maldives and Sri Lanka too have requested for energy supplies from India.

“We have received a request from the Government of Bangladesh for supply of diesel which is being examined,” said Mr. Jaiswal. The official statement mentioned that India has been sending diesel from the Numaligarh refinery to Bangladesh through various modes like “waterways, rail and later through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline” since 2007.

The two sides had signed an agreement to supply 5,000 metric tonnes of high speed diesel from Numaligarh to Bangladesh in 2017.

“It bears mention that while diesel exports to Bangladesh have largely continued since 2007, India’s refining capacity, our own requirements, and diesel availability will be factored in while taking decisions,” said Mr. Jaiswal.

He added that “several other countries including Sri Lank and Maldives” have also made similar requests for energy supplies from India.
