Karnataka police tackle Kerala lottery sales in Mysuru-Chamarajanagar border areas

Despite the ban on lottery sales in Karnataka, the police are dealing with the illegal sale of Kerala State lotteries in the border regions of Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts.

Superintendent of Police, Mysuru, Mallikarjun Baladandi, said the police — who have booked a total of 14 cases in areas of Mysuru district bordering Kerala so far this year — found that the accused were purchasing the lottery tickets wholesale in Kerala.

The lottery tickets were transported across State borders by buses that ply between the two States, he said, adding that two accused persons were found to be repeatedly involved in this.

Meanwhile, a statement from Chamarajanagar district police said they registered two cases on March 9 against persons illegally selling Kerala State lottery tickets in Yelandur town in the district.

Based on a complaint, the Yelandur police raided a place near Nadamegalamma temple in the town, and arrested Madanayaka, 68, a mat trader, and seized 72 Kerala State lottery tickets worth ₹3,600 from him. 

Based on another complaint that the Kerala State lottery tickets were being sold in a public place near Yelandur bus stand, the police raided the place and arrested Siddhartha, 30, and seized 12 lottery tickets worth ₹ 1,200 from him.
