A section of leaders in the Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC) affiliated with the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) [NCP(SP)] has criticised the reported meeting convened by Minister for Forest A.K. Saseendran, NCP(SP) State working president P.M. Suresh Babu and their loyalists at the Government Guest House here recently.

A press release by the Elathur block committee of the NYC said on Sunday (March 8, 2026) that the meeting was akin to the “fence eating the crop”. The criticism comes amid a rift in the party between those supporting Mr. Saseendran’s candidature from the Elathur Assembly constituency in the upcoming elections and others who are opposed to fielding him, the incumbent MLA, from the seat again.

Referring to Mr. Saseendran’s election victories from Elathur and elsewhere, the NYC leaders said it was ethically and politically incorrect for a leader to contest elections eight times. They claimed that every Left Democratic Front (LDF) activist in Elathur wanted a change this time.

Mr. Saseendran should voluntarily keep away from the contest and nominate LDF district convener Mukkom Mohammed as the candidate, they added.
