The Puthuyuga Yatra led by Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan will conclude at the Putharikandam Maidan in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. The Yatra began in Kasaragod on February 6.

A public meeting on the occasion will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) committees of the Thiruvananthapuram, Nemom and Vattiyurkavu constituencies will receive Mr. Satheesan around 4 p.m. in front of the Secretariat’s Azad Gate. Following the reception, the rally will proceed to Putharikandam Maidan, where it will conclude with a public meeting.

During the 25-day journey, a total of 121 public meetings were organised as part of the Puthuyuga Yatra. Policy documents prepared through various conclaves organised by the UDF were also released during the tour. The Health conclave policy document was released in Kozhikode and the Higher Education conclave policy document in Thrissur.

A dialogue titled ‘Samvadikkam Puthuyugathinayi’ (Let’s Talk for a New Era) was held at 14 locations. Instead of inviting prominent public figures, the UDF chose to engage with ordinary people facing real-life hardships. Those who participated in the interactions included people representing various sections of society, including Endosulfan victims, farmers, anganwadi teachers, Accredited Social Health Activists, lottery workers, pre-primary teachers, Kerala State Road Transport Corporation pensioners, parents of children with disabilities, and job aspirants who secured first ranks but are yet to get an appointment order.

The UDF promises that it will address specific issues of districts on priority and has prepared special documents on each district. The interactions held with people from various sections of society during the Yatra have helped UDF in preparing the UDF manifesto and in identifying priority issues that should be addressed at the State level if the coalition comes to power.

UDF’s rally organisers claim that the Yatra differed from the conventional pre-election political tours conducted by parties and that it offered hope to the younger generation about better prospects ahead.

The public meeting will be attended by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretaries K.C. Venugopal and Deepa Dasmunshi; AICC working committee members Ramesh Chennithala, Shashi Tharoor and Kodikunnil Suresh; Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Sunny Joseph; Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.K. Kunhalikutty; and UDF convener Adoor Prakash, among others.
