Oncologists have highlighted the role of multidisciplinary cancer care in managing endometrial cancers, which has emerged as one of the fastest-evolving gynaecologic malignancies, at a recent conference hosted by JIPMER.

The conference on “Integrating Multidisciplinary Approaches in Endometrial Cancers,” co-hosted by the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Medical Oncology at JIPMER, assembled experts from across India and abroad to deliberate on evidence-based, collaborative strategies aimed at improving outcomes in endometrial cancer, a press note said.

The theme of the meeting was conceived in response to the rapidly evolving landscape of endometrial cancer diagnosis and treatment. Advances in molecular classification, precision imaging, minimally invasive surgery, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and refined radiation techniques have fundamentally reshaped treatment paradigms, JIPMER said.

Contemporary management requires seamless coordination between gynaecologic oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and supportive care teams.

In his inaugural address, Saka Vinod Kumar, JIPMER Medical Superintendent, emphasised how essential multidisciplinary tumour boards and coordinated institutional protocols are to ensure comprehensive and equitable cancer care in tertiary referral centres.
Vikram Kate, Dean (Academic) and Kadambari D, Dean (Research) at JIPMER, also spoke. Shyama Prem S, organising chairperson and Professor and Head of Radiation Oncology, highlighted the importance of translating emerging scientific evidence into real-world clinical practice. Smita Kayal, Professor of Medical Oncology and Kannan P, Assistant Professor, Radiation Oncology, also addressed delegates.

The event featured eminent national faculty from leading cancer centres, including Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Regional Cancer Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandīgarh.

International expert Peter Hoskin, Professor of Clinical Oncology at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, United Kingdom (virtual mode), joined the proceedings in virtual mode.

Scientific deliberations covered risk stratification, advances in imaging, molecular and clinicopathological classification, surgical innovations, radiation therapy evidence, including landmark trials, brachytherapy techniques, and management of advanced, recurrent, and metastatic disease.

The event also included an interactive panel discussions and a quiz programme.
