Congress party sources on Wednesday night said the party would “most likely nominate a Christian candidate” to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu.

With senior leaders in Tamil Nadu such as Su. Thirunavukkarasar and others angled for the Rajya Sabha spot, multiple sources said M. Christopher Tilak, secretary, All India Congress Committee, is the frontrunner.

Earlier in the day, Meenakshi Natarajan, who was an M.P., from Madhya Pradesh between 2009-2014, was believed to be the front runner.

However, in the evening, senior leaders suggested that “a Christian from Tamil Nadu” would be a Rajya Sabha member.
