A 53-year-old woman was killed when a fire broke out in a four-storey residential building at Gayatrinagar under Subramanyanagar Police Station limits in Bengaluru on March 2 night.

The deceased has been identified as Savitha, wife of Ramesh Babu, a contractor.

According to the police, the fire was reported around 9 p.m. from the kitchen on the third floor of the building. Ramesh Babu lives in a duplex on the third and fourth floors, along with Savitha, his son, and his mother Chinnamma. The first and second floors of the building had been rented out.

When the fire broke out, Savitha was trapped inside the house, and sustained severe burn injuries, leading to her death. Ramesh Babu, his son, and Chinnamma, who were also inside the house at the time of the incident, were rescued by fire and emergency personnel who doused the flames.

The rescued persons were shifted to Manipal Hospital for treatment.

Senior police officials visited the house, along with Subramanyanagar police.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.
