Tensions erupted at a cinema hall in Kottayam on Saturday when the screening of the film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond had to be abruptly stopped following a protest by DYFI activists.

The incident took place at Anashwara Theatre, where the first show began at 11 a.m. Just as the film’s first half concluded around noon, the activists arrived, alleging that the film misrepresented the State’s secular credentials. Only 24 viewers had attended the screening. The protesters urged the audience to leave the theatre and assured that their ticket money would be refunded.

When a couple of viewers refused to step out, the protest briefly escalated before they eventually withdrew.

During the demonstration, the activists also tore down and damaged posters of the film, further intensifying the scene. The police were present at the theatre throughout the incident. In view of the protest, the theatre subsequently cancelled the evening shows scheduled for 5.45 p.m. and 8.45 p.m.
