As many as eight crows were found dead at Kanganankuppam near Cuddalore on Thursday (February 26, 2026). The residents noticed the carcasses and alerted the District Administration and the Animal Husbandry Department.

An official from the Department of Animal Husbandry said samples have been collected from the crows’ carcasses. The samples will be sent to the Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory, Namakkal. The cause of death will be known only after the report arrives.

He said that teams will undertake thorough disinfection in the area where the mortality had been reported. The dead birds will be disposed of through deep burial. Surveillance has been enhanced in the affected area, he said.

The incident comes close on the heels of detection of strains of avian influenza (H5N1) in crow samples lifted from Adyar in Chennai.
