A high-level UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) delegation will visit the Kerala State Commision for Protection of Child Rights on Monday in connection with the commission and UNICEF’s partnership on advocating the need to address non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among children in the State.

Raoul Bermejo, health specialist and lead on NCDs from UNICEF headquarters in New York, will lead the delegation that will visit the commission at 2.30 p.m. Vivek Virendra Singh, health specialist from UNICEF India; and Syam Sudheer Bandi, UNICEF Tamil Nadu and Kerala communication specialist, will accompany him.

A function in which UNICEF will present a note of appreciation to the commission in recognition of the leadership and work undertaken by the commission on addressing NCDs affecting children will be held in the Chief Minister’s chamber.

The UNICEF representatives and the commission will interact with children, MLAs, and others at Hyatt Regency at 4 p.m.

The commission had organised five meetings with children, parents, teachers, political leaders, and MLAs on prevention and control of NCDs in children and submitted a detailed report.

Its work was getting huge recognition and support from UNICEF, commission chairperson K.V. Manoj Kumar said in a statement.
