The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons, Hyderabad Range, on Friday (February 21, 2026) clarified that reports aired by certain television channels alleging that inmates of Chanchalguda Central Jail in the city held ‘mulaqats’ with terror-linked persons to plan attacks in key areas of the city are incorrect and baseless.

In a statement, the DIG D. Srinivas said that the news scrollings in the morning hours were not supported by any verified information.

“Following verification with prison authorities and intelligence agencies concerned, it was confirmed that no such incident had taken place and that there was no credible intelligence input indicating any unlawful activity or conspiracy as alleged,” said the officer.

He clarified that all ‘mulaqats’ in the Central Jail were conducted strictly in accordance with established prison rules and security protocols. “Every visitor undergoes thorough verification, documentation and monitoring. The prison administration maintains surveillance mechanisms to ensure institutional and public safety,” he explained.

Telangana Prisons Department said dissemination of unverified information could cause unnecessary public concern and affect the morale of prison staff. It urged media organisations to verify facts with the department concerned before publishing or telecasting sensitive matters.
