ADAG Group chairman and managing director Anil Ambani has filed an affidavit assuring the Supreme Court that he has not left India since July 2025, or since the beginning of the investigation in an alleged bank fraud case. Mr. Ambani added that he had no plan or intention to travel outside the country.

He informed the court that he has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on February 26, 2026. He undertook to appear and join the investigation on that date.

Mr. Ambani also said he would not leave the country without the prior permission of the Supreme Court.

Full cooperation

He said he would fully cooperate with the authorities, ensuring procedural clarity in the ongoing investigation to prevent any suggestion of evasion or selection presentation of facts.

The businessman added that any material furnished or cooperation extended must be viewed in the context of matters already under consideration and not in isolation.

The affidavit followed an oral undertaking given to the court on February 4 by Mr. Ambani’s counsel, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, that his client would not leave the country.

Forged bank guarantees

On February 4, a three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant had directed the ED to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of senior officers to investigate the scam, while ordering the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a “fair, dispassionate” probe into the “nexus, connivance, conspiracy, collusion” among bank officials, authorities and the management of the companies.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI and ED, said the forensic auditor had pointed to the siphoning of approximately ₹40,000 crore of public money. The top law officer said the acts in question involved the giving of “forged bank guarantees”.

“In the forensic report, it is shown money was taken from one bank to pay another,” Mr. Mehta had submitted.

Advocates Prashant Bhushan and Neha Rathi, appearing for petitioner E.A.S. Sarma, who has sought the constitution of an SIT and a comprehensive investigation into what he termed as “one of the biggest financial frauds in the country”, had flagged the possibility of Mr. Ambani leaving the country.
