About 2,500 students of 10 government and aided schools in north Chennai successfully completed two projects on energy management at schools and homes, and designing and building a functional foldable house model, as part of the north Chennai Project-based Learning Programme.

The students received their completion certificates from School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Wednesday.

For the first project, the students used data analysis to map energy consumption at schools and homes and drew up a practicable plan to reduce waste using real applications of Data Science and AI. For the second project, the students used physics and engineering concepts to build working physical prototypes of a foldable house that are rapidly deployable to suit low-income and disaster-prone communities.

Throughout the project cycle, the students were mentored by experts from IIT Madras, Illinois Institute of Technology, KREA University, and industry professionals. The programme is part of the CSR initiative of Kamarajar Port and Rhapsody Music Foundation.

The students were already thinking differently, asking questions, making decisions with data and building things with their hands, according to Anil Srinivasan, Founder, Rhapsody Music Foundation.

The programme will continue through 2026 with more projects before a final showcase event, a press release stated.
