A man was arrested for allegedly killing his three-year-old son and throwing the body into the Musi river, after quarrels with his wife over medical expenses.

According to Bandlaguda police, Mohammed Akbar, 35, a vegetable vendor, smothered his younger son, Mohammed Anas, to death with a pillow at 4 a.m. on Friday. “His wife, Sama Begum, a caretaker in Niloufer Hospital, was on duty at the time of crime,” police said.

Akbar used to have frequent arguments with Sama over the high costs of treatment for Anas, who was diagnosed with a heart condition. “On Friday night, he decided to kill the boy. After suffocating the child to death, he placed the body in a sack and dumped it into the Musi, near thr Nayapul bridge, before proceeding with his routine vegetable business,” police added.

In a bid to cover up the crime, Akbar approached the police station at 10 a.m. on Saturday, claiming that his son had gone missing. However, CCTV footage collected from the area showed him leaving his residence with a sack at around 3 a.m. When confronted with the evidence, he admitted to the crime.

Police said that the child’s body could not be recovered from the Musi due to the strong current. Akbar was taken into custody.
