Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Friday called upon newly recruited government officials to discharge their duties by remaining true to their conscience and also to remain honest. “If you are honest, it will reflect the government’s honesty,” Mr. Stalin said, addressing new recruits during a function at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai.

These 9,801 new recruits have been recruited by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC), the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MSRB), and the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) for various posts. “If you are punctual, duty-conscious, and approachable to the people and are kind to them, that will earn you a good reputation. While you work for the government, please do take care of your health too,” he said.

Advising them to work efficiently so that Tamil Nadu could become a role model for other States, Mr. Stalin said: “We should increase the revenue to the government so that various welfare programmes for the people can be continued. We should lend a helping hand to the next generation.” Only if the government officials served well, can the government machinery function without any obstructions, he said.

The DMK government has implemented various welfare programmes, including Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Illam Thedi Kalvi, and Ungaludan Stalin, among others, and government officials have resolved various issues facing the general public. “If these programmes have earned a reputation for the government, it was because of government employees and teachers,” Mr. Stalin said.

During the past five years, 45,126 candidates were recruited by the TNPSC, 24,927 were recruited by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, 12,894 were recruited by the TRB, 11,244 were recruited by the MSRB, the Chief Minister said. Besides, 5,899 were granted appointments on compassionate grounds, he said.

Under various departments, boards, and local bodies, 54,864 were provided jobs and 177 got jobs under the sports quota, he said. “During these five years, we have given appointment orders to 1,55,131 youths,” Mr. Stalin said. Besides, through the industrial investments brought into the State, his government has ensured employment for about 38 lakh people, he said.

Mr. Stalin also launched the ‘Thervukkalam’ mobile app to benefit job aspirants and also Thiran 360 portal, which will help youths in skill development. He unveiled the foundation for the construction of a building in Shenoy Nagar in Chennai at a cost of ₹62.50 crore, which will house the coaching centre for youths into All India government services. The Chief Minister inaugurated new buildings for the Anna Administrative Staff College constructed at a cost of ₹3.38 crore.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin; Ministers Ma. Subramanian, P.K. Sekarbabu, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj; Chennai Mayor R. Priya; Egmore MLA I. Paranthamen; Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam and senior officials participated.
