Representatives of the Federation of OMR Resident Associations (FOMRRA) who work among 250 communities, covering over 50,000 homes with around three lakh voters, have been meeting members of manifesto committees of political parties, submitting the people’s manifesto for the Assembly elections.

The manifesto has been compiled by the residents of areas living along the Rajiv Gandhi Salai also known as Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).

The demands include underground drainage network to stop open discharges into canals, marshlands, and other waterways; ensuring 24×7 piped potable water to every OMR locality; fast-track Chennai Metro Phase II along the OMR; protect and revive Pallikaranai marsh; establish biogas units at micro composting centres to generate electricity; and revoke recent electricity tariff hikes affecting common areas in apartment complexes.

They also wanted the government to establish a government multi-specialty hospital and fire and rescue stations at Thazhambur and Perumbakkam. Harsha Koda, co-founder, FOMRRA, said that their team met with manifesto teams of political parties including the DMK, AIADMK, and the BJP.

“We will meet other party representatives too. Sholinganallur and Thiruporur constituencies stretch from Madhya Kailash to Mamallapuram, including both OMR and ECR and a portion of Velachery. The manifesto teams were not aware of issues in these constituencies. We believe that constituency-level manifestos will enable political parties to focus on our areas in a better manner.”
