A consultative meeting of Badanavalu Satyagrahis has been organized at the Indian Institute of Educational Theatre (IIET) in Hardwicke School premises near RTO circle in Mysuru on February 14 to take forward the vision to build the country’s economy on a strong foundation of rural economy.

The demand, raised during the historic Badanavalu Satyagraha held in 2015, has been fulfilled to a limited extent. “The government of Karnataka has decided to develop the khadi centre into a Gandhi Ashram, and to comprehensively strengthen the khadi and village industries’ production, sales and training activities at the Centre. This is a welcome development,” said G. S. Jayadev, convenor of Badanavalu Satayagraha.

However, the core demand of the satyagraha — that the country’s economy should be built on a strong foundation of rural economy — remains unfulfilled, he said.

“In fact, over the past decade, the rural economy has witnessed a severe decline. Therefore, there is a growing opinion that the satyagraha must be reinvigorated,” he said before inviting satyagrahis to join the meeting aimed at developing the Badanavalu Khadi Centre campus in Mysuru district into a lively Gandhi Ashram, and rural sustainable livelihood cluster.

The consultation meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on February 14 in the IIET premises.
