Three men accused of attempting to murder a 45-year-old man in Kolachiyadukkam were arrested by Vidyanagar police from a hideout in Kuttiyadi, Kozhikode on Wednesday.

Two of the accused are previously involved in assault cases, police said. The arrested are Abdul Azzez (42), Abseer (32) and Ashique (34) all residents of Kolachiyadukkam. They were taken into custody by a team led by Vidyanagar Inspector K.P. Shine under the direction of the District Police Chief and ASP.

According to the police, the accused attacked C.N. Abdul Haris (45) of Sabana Manzil near the Rifai mosque at Kolachiyadukkam around 6.40 p.m. on February 3. The assailants allegedly stopped him on the road and assaulted him using hands and by striking his head, besides hitting his right hand with an iron rod and threatening him with a knife. CCTV visuals of the incident have been collected as evidence.

The police said the motive behind the attack is purportedly a dispute related to the construction of a road through the complainant’s father’s property and questioning the parking of a car in front of the Rifai mosque. The accused, who is accused in other assault cases, had allegedly threatened Haris to sell his house and property and leave the area.

Haris, who sustained injuries was admitted to a private hospital in Cherkala. A case has been registered under sections 126(2), 115(2), 118(1), 351(3) read with 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused will be produced before the court on Wednesday afternoon.
